The Unit is an internationally recognized Centre of excellence with dominant research themes in the areas of HIV and emerging infections, vaccines and immunity, and chronic diseases and cancer. Through a multidisciplinary approach, intersecting basic science, epidemiological research, social-behavioural research and the conduct of new intervention evaluation studies, the Unit contributes knowledge on changing epidemics and diseases, the evaluation of innovative healthcare options, treatment and prevention and the development of health policy and practice in Africa and worldwide. Following the signing of strategic transfer agreements between the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) and the Medical Research Council (MRC UK), the Unit formally joined LSHTM on 1st February 2018. The exciting new partnership will boost research capacity into current and emerging health issues in Africa and throughout the world. The Unit is based at the UVRI Entebbe campus with established outposts in Kalungu, Masaka, Wakiso and Kampala Districts. The Unit is now seeking an enthusiastic and experienced individual to fill the following position:
Study Counsellor (1 position)

Job Purpose:
This position will assist in reviewing CBT and group counselling notes. S/he will also support the documentation and filing of the site investigator file and other regulatory documents ahead of the site close-out monitoring visit.
Roles &Responsibilities
• Verifies that participants’ intervention files and Case Report Forms (CRFs) are all accounted form and filed appropriately;
• Reviews participants’ intervention files and performs internal quality control of hard copy files following ICH-GCP guidelines to ensure clarity;
• Resolves discrepancies in participants’ information in the intervention files, in consultation with the study PI and coordinator;
• Documents any changes to participants CRFs appropriately in notes-to-files, and quality control reports;
• Available to answer queries from the data management team and statisticians regarding entries in participants’ CRFs;
• Maintains confidentiality for study participant documents;
• Assists in final stock taking and storage of study supplies;
• Assists in the archiving of participants CRFs and other study documents;
• Works with other study staff to maintain, update and ensure that the Investigator Site File and other regulatory documents are ready for the Monitor/Designee to review during the close-out visit.; and,
• Any other role that is line with the position that is assigned by the line manager.
Person Specification
• Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Developmental studies, Psychology or related course;
• Training in Counselling is an added advantage;
• At least 1-year experience conducting socio-behavioral research with a focus on delivering cognitive behavioral therapy intervention to female sex workers;
• Prior experience in research in humans;
• Prior experience in data cleaning and quality control;
• Training in Good Clinical Practice
• Proficiency in computer use (MS word, Excel, Access, Nvivo);
• Good verbal and written communication skills; and,
• Good command of both English and Luganda.
