The research assistants are primarily responsible for conducting interviews and data entry into data entry screens. They will have direct contact with respondents and have a great bearing on the quality of data collected and ultimately on the quality of data output.
Responsibilities:
The position holders shall be responsible for:
• Fieldwork preparation duties o Attend a one-day training workshop for research assistants. Receive data collection tools (questionnaires).
• Conduct piloting of the data collection tools.
• Fieldwork and data collection
• Perform day-to-day data collection activities: Identify and seek consent from eligible respondents from selected health facilities and conduct structured interviews
• Provide a daily summary of interviews conducted with the supervisor.
• Ensure completeness and confidentiality of data collected and study information.
• After field visits
• Ensure that all data captured is always kept secure.
• Submit every questionnaire of the interviews to the supervisor.
• Enter quantitative data into data entry screens.
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences, Nursing and Midwifery, or similar qualification.
• A certificate in Research Ethics will be an added advantage.
• Previous experience with quantitative data collection on maternal newborn health, family planning, and immunization with a reputable research organization.
• A minimum of two (02) years’ relevant working experience as a health research assistant is required
• Skills
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbal.
• Computer literate, and able to use ODK for data collection.
• Ability to produce concise, informative, and appropriate written documentation.
• Ability to work independently as well as an effective team player.
• Ability to speak native languages in the area (English and Luganda).
