Principal Warden at Kyambogo University

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To provide general administration in the halls of residence as regards student’s welfare and discipline.

KEY FUNCTIONS

• To enforce the University Regulations and all matters related to the students’ discipline.
• To support the Dean of Students in ensuring that the students get appropriate advice through guidance and counseling.
• To provide leadership to Senior Wardens and Wardens.
• To chair the Wardens meetings in the absence of the Dean of Students and Deputy Dean of Students.
• To carry out any other duties assigned by the Dean of Students

KEY OUTPUTS

• University regulations enforced
• Dean of students supported in giving students advice
• Leadership provided to Senior Wardens and Wardens
• Meetings chaired on behalf of the Dean of Students

PERSON SPECIFICATION

a) Academic qualifications

• A Master’s degree in either Education Planning and Management, Human Resource Management, Guidance & Counselling, Counselling Psychology, Psychology and Sociology from a recognised awarding university/institution.
• Must possess an honours Bachelor’s degree in either Education, Arts (Social Sciences), Psychology, Social Work and Social Administration from a recognised awarding university/institution.

b) Experience

• Should have at least six (6) years’ work experience in higher institution of learning, three of which must have been served at the level of a Senior Warden in University Administration or Institutions of higher learning.

c) Knowledge

• Should have broad knowledge about University procedures and regulations relating to student affairs and welfare.

d) Skills

• Have well-developed inter-personal, listening, counselling and communication skills.

e) Personal Attributes

• Should be a mature person with the ability to understand student behavioural patterns, group dynamics and inspire disciplined behaviour.

f) Computer Literacy

• Should be computer literate.

g) Age Limit

• Not above the age of 55 years at the time of application in case of new entrants into Kyambogo University.
