Uganda Cancer Institute (UCI) is an Autonomous Institution under the Ministry of Health established by the Uganda Cancer Institute Act, 2016. The Act mandates the Institute to undertake and coordinate the management of Cancer and Cancer related diseases in Uganda. The main focus of the Institute is Cancer treatment, prevention, Research and Training in Oncology, Pediatrics, Gynecology, Radiotherapy, Surgery, Imaging and Radiology, Nuclear Medicine among others. In order to increase access to cancer services, the Government of Uganda and Uganda Cancer institute adapted a strategy of establishing Regional Cancer Centres in Mbarara, Arua, Gulu and Mbale to offer cancer services at regional level.
The Government of Uganda has provided funding to Uganda Cancer Institute to operationalize UCI-Regional Cancer Centre, Gulu. In order to functionalize the centre, the Institute is in the process of recruiting staff to fill the gaps in the structural establishment at the Uganda Cancer Institute, Kampala and at the UCI- Northern Regional Cancer Centre, Gulu.
