Division Superintendent at Kakira Sugar Limited

Section/Project: Kayunga Sugar Project
Reports to (position): Estate Manager-Kayunga
Overseers, Nyamparas.

Overall purpose of the job.
To ensure management of land preparation planting and general maintenance of the sugar cane fields in your area of jurisdiction to ensure good yields as projected in regards to the costs.

Key Responsibilities
1. Managing land preparation, planting, maintenance of sugarcane fields within your area and achieving the targeted production within the budgeted costs
2. Managing sugarcane harvesting activities of quality cutting and maintain proper delivery of lean cane to the factory ready for milling.
Overseeing and maintaining sugarcane field by using best agronomic applications to ensure good yields
4. Maintaining a constant vigilant throughout your division for any preventive risks like fire hazards like cattle grazing or disease infections to the sugarcane fields and take preventive necessary remedial actions
5. Monitoring tractor logbooks to maintain their performance, fuel control and operations
6. Carrying out routine visits to the villages and sugarcane blocks to get acquainted with actual activities and challenges happening in the section
Coordinating with other Superintendents in the department to achieve enhanced and cost- effective working relations
8. Carrying out on job training for subordinate staff and ensuring their motivation
9. Preparing and submitting routine and adhoc reports, statics and their relevant information concerning the performance of the area/Division
10. Approving after scrutinizing overtime payments and productions reports and returns
Preparing and submitting production reports of your area to Estate Manager
12. Enforcing company Safety, Health and Environmental policy. Performing any other duties that maybe assigned to you by your Estate Manager/Management from time to time

Knowledge, qualifications & Experience
• Education: Bachelors of Science Degree in Agriculture from a recognised University
• Experience, Skills and Competences:
• Good communication skills, ability to speak local languages (Swahili, Kisoga, Luganda e.t.c)
• Able to work with people of different background/status

Analytical Skills:
Ability to analyse and articulate production issues
Interpersonal Skills:
Ability to interact with fellow employees to achieve the required targets
People Skills:
Ability to interact fellow employees to achieve the required targets.
