Principal Planning & Maintenance Engineer Directorate of ICT Support at Makerere University e-HRMS

Job Purpose
Plan for and ensure new technology acquisition, infrastructure expansion and ensure proper maintenance of the ICT infrastructure.

Key, Duties and Responsibilities
• Plan for infrastructure expansion and improvement including migration to new technologies;
• Carry out asset management for ICT infrastructure;
• Document the entire network infrastructure and ensure update of the configuration database;
• Support academic and administrative units in specifying, implementing and maintain with the internal ICT infrastructure;
• Implement planned and corrective maintenance;
• Plan and administer disaster recovery measures for ICT infrastructure;
• Plan and implement business continuity efforts for the various University ICT infrastructures;
• Carry out a trends watch function in the ICT infrastructure field and plan for innovations;
• Perform any other relevant duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Required Qualifications
• Master’s degree, in either Data Communication or Electrical/Electronic Engineering with bias in telecommunication systems and computer hardware;
• A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronic or Data Communications Engineering.
• Relevant professional certifications.

Experience
• Minimum of six (6) years working experience in network design, installation and operation of local area networks in large organization with at least three (3) years at Senior Planning and maintenance Engineer level;
• Professional training in a relevant professional certification is an added advantage
