Sawa World is an NGO that uses an innovative approach to instantly transform the lives of unemployed and marginalized youth by giving them the skills to start micro-businesses within a short period with locally created and simple solutions to self-employment.
We are looking for a pro-active, detail-oriented, well-organized Head of Programs that exhibits a passion for fostering a culture of efficiency and accountability while ensuring that organizational resources are used in the most cost-effective manner. This individual will be responsible for planning, implementing, and reporting on our impact programs with minimal supervision. He/she will work closely with the Country Director on a full-time basis. .
Responsibilities and tasks
When called upon, the candidate will be required to work on the following:
Strategic direction
• Contribute to formulating strategies that implement the right processes and practices within the organization by planning, implementing, and reporting on our impact programs at the Solution Centre, in the communities and online.
• Play a key role in the day-to-day running of the Solution Centre programs that link to the overall annual goals and impact of the organization.
• Act as a primary liaison by maintaining professional communications and relationships with different partners and service providers.
• Support the Country Director to make and review key strategic decisions on the scaling and sustainability of the organization.
Program management
• Develop and ensure the realization of project goals and objectives in order to achieve successful outcomes.
• Utilize industry standard project management processes to ensure effective delivery of high quality results.
• Track and report on workflow, project deliverables and ensure that the most efficient processes are being used within and between departments to keep operations smooth on a monthly basis
• Oversee the activities of the Impacts & Outreach Team including the monitoring, evaluation, and innovations of project activities.
• Oversee activities of the Media Team including the production of learning and impact videos, and social media management.
• Produce well-written and accurate additional policies guidelines and workflows where needed with minimal editing/ or review
• Draft high quality management and donor reports ensuring they are submitted in a timely manner.
• Identify and evaluate programmatic risks together with the Head of Finance and Administration associated with different project activities and take appropriate action to mitigate the risks.
• Oversee effective project budget monitoring and spending where necessary perform the budget holder duties.
Business development/partnerships
• Work with the Country Director where appropriate to lead proposal development, project design, and writing on behalf of the organization.
• With the Country Director, take a co-leading role in building/fostering relationships with donors, government, and other key stakeholders.
• Ensure that the organization is effectively represented at different relevant meetings
Human resource management
• Recruit and train new staff and contractors with support from the Head of Finance and Administration
• Ensure appropriate internal reporting is completed based on project and internal timelines and deadlines.
• Oversee team management and engagement of Ugandan and global volunteers in line with the human resource guidelines and procedures.
• Oversee team performance management and dismissals when needed while making sure that succession plans are in place to ensure the sustainability of staffing within the project teams.
Requirements
• Bachelor’s Degree with at least 4 years of NGO management experience.
• Possess strong project management skills and have the ability to work in a busy organization, team environment and manage multiple priorities, deadlines.
• Strong problem solving, analytical skills, and willingness to work in a multicultural team environment that may require flexibility to work irregular and sometimes long hours
• Experience in managing, leading, and mentoring staff teams.
• Excellent English language skills, both written and oral with practical computer skills and competence with Microsoft office environment.
• Proficient in social media platforms, and content management systems.
• Comprehensive knowledge of bookkeeping
• General willingness to engage in a broad range of activities to support organizational growth with minimal supervision.
Compensation: Salary will be based on experience and skill level
