Responsibilities
• Assist in the implementation of approved policies and procedures for UNIX operating system design, implementation and maintenance as an L3.
• Capable to handle multiple Unix Platform like: RHEL, OEL, SUSE Linux, Solaris. Can work together with likes of Oracle, Hitachi, REHL and other OEM support to fix complex issues.
• Provide input in the planning of UNIX operating systems upgrades, firmware upgrades and deployment and join hands with the team in deployment issues.
• Review L1 and L2 tasks of UNIX resources on a daily basis and guide them to enhance skills.
• Provide support in the implementation and user acceptance testing of UNIX operating systems.
• Assist in the development of a proactive maintenance cycle for UNIX operating systems and automate preventive/routine maintenance on systems.
• Perform daily UNIX operating system administration, including hardware & software upgrades.
• Work on the Migration from P2V and P2P as assigned by Projects. Maintain a balance of Projects and Operations.
• Should have sound knowledge Virtualization Technology, cluster creation, especially on OVM and Solaris Zones and contribute in building new environment from scratch.
• Maintain backup of the UNIX operating system network, ensure 100% of back up is defined and taken. Ensure optimal performance of all applications running on UNIX operating system environment in CUSTOMER through proactive tuning and preventive maintenance.
• Perform daily UNIX systems checks and correct any issues.
• Monitor UNIXsystems performance and recommend adjustments to system parameters to ensure optimum performance and response time.
• Work with the User Support team to provide second level support to end users and ensure timely resolution of UNIX system problems.
• Liaise with relevant unit/ team/function in carrying out all relevant activities.
• Attend team/divisional/departmental meetings as required.
• Prepare/compile agreed periodic activity and performance reports for the attention of the Manager, IT Operations Support.
• Support in planning security Vulnerabilities closure. Assist in internal and external audits.
• Perform any other duties as assigned by the Manager, IT Operations Support.
• Be complaint with Process defined for Incident, Change and Problem Management.
• Take ownership of publishing any Root cause analysis.
• Proactively highlight any RISK related to Support, hardware and OS. Manage and mitigate risk in advance.
• Take complete OWNERSHIP of UNIX platform and manage UNIX team.
• Ensure Zero unauthorized changes in UNIX area. Support any automation work for continuous improvement
Qualifications
• First degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline.
• Bachelors or Masters in IT or Computer Science.
• Minimum of Five (5)years relevant work experience in UNIX administration.
