Treasurer at Centenary Bank

Key Result Areas:

  1. Design and monitor the liquidity risk management framework of the Bank, in collaboration with Financial markets and Risk divisions, in compliance with Bank of Uganda Guideline and Board liquidity risk appetite.
  2. Apply forecasting models and scenario analysis to anticipate potential future liquidity constraints-stress testing the balance sheet under adverse economic scenarios.
  3. Review cash and liquidity forecasting routines to identify risks and ensure compliance with relevant liquidity risk metrics.
  4. Review the concentration of depositors and borrowers and the behavioral adjustments, assumptions for deposits.
  5. Independently review and assess financial condition of investments
  6. Review contingency funding plan, manage the long-term debt, manage other funding sources, and Implement funding and hedging strategies.
  7. Analysis, evaluation and monitoring of funding structure; development of optimization strategies.
  8. Analyze impacts to short-term money market rates and liquidity resulting from changes in BOU policy rate (CBR).
  9. Perform extensive financial analysis related to funding risks and opportunities and Monitor Compliance with Financial covenants.
  10. Develop and review quantitative models to forecast balance sheet and income statement items and advice on the balance sheet mix appropriateness.
  11. Develop periodic unit reports to Asset & Liability Committee (ALCO) as the senior management forum responsible for decision-making on financial resource deployment and allocation and optimizing risk-return
  12. Conduct market intelligence, analysis of competitors and review economic outlook and impact of industry legal and regulatory changes.
  13. Support ALM Strategy through ad-hoc analysis, Develop, review and enforce compliance with regulatory and ALM policy and procedure.
  14. Review ALCO ratios and regulatory ratios.
  15. Monitor interest and currency risk of the Bank, in collaboration with Financial and Risk divisions and in compliance with Bank of Uganda Guidelines, Board market risk appetite and international market practices.
  16. Responsible for developing and maintaining the Bank’s funds transfer pricing process and review foreign exchange exposure gaps.
  17. Provide strategic and supervisory leadership to the division and lead in the implementation of the performance management, talent development to meet business objective in accordance with the Human Resources practices of the Bank.

Education and Professional Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Economics or similar field of study and, or, An accounting professional qualification (ACCA, CPA) or Chartered Financial Analyst.

Required Experience and Competences

  • Banking experience, preferably in Treasury, Finance, or fixed income roles
  • Clear grasp of both global and local banking regulations including Basel III.
  • Solid understanding of how the balance sheet and income statement impact regulatory and legal requirements
  • Strong experience in managing and analysing vast amounts of data
  • Use of Reuters, Bloomberg and other market sources.

Required Skills

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills
  • Strong knowledge of Banking book products, e.g. loans and deposits, preferred
  • Work with stakeholders to provide value added services to business
  • Understand Business and Treasury stakeholder needs/ priorities and applicable mandate
  • Ability to communicate and present clearly and concisely in written and oral form with people of different backgrounds and hierarchical levels
  • Highly motivated and self-sufficient individual with ability to be directed with high precision and reliability
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to understand broad business issues and their wide-ranging implications, and to make sound business recommendations
