Gulu University is a Public University established by Statutory Instrument No. 16 of 2003. The University was set to serve as a launch pad for equitable development in Uganda providing knowledge and skills and stimulating innovations in education, technology, economic advancement and social development. The University is located in Gulu City with campuses in Kitgum District, Hoima City and a Constituent College Project in Moroto District.
The Vision of the University is “To be the leading Academic Institution for promotion of Community Transformation and Industrialization for Sustainable Development”.
The Mission of the University is “To provide access to Quality Higher Education, Training, Research and Innovations for the Delivery of Appropriate Services towards Community Transformation and Sustainable Development”.
To achieve its Vision and Mission, the University invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the following positions:
Position: Lecturer (Department of Mental Health, Faculty of Medicine)
Number of Vacancies: 1 (One)
Salary Scale: M6.1 (Teaching Science)
Reports To: Head of Department
Job Purpose:
To support the implementation of the students’ academic and research programmes of the University .

Key Duties and Responsibilities
• Prepares learning materials and delivers lectures to the undergraduate students.
• Participates in the development of Manuals and tools for the conduct, supervision and evaluation of practical / clinical assignments to students.
• Examines, assesses, and marks undergraduate students’ assignments/ course works and end of semester examinations.
• Undertakes research to support the development of the University academic research agenda.
• Supervises students’ academic research, community and clinical placements and activities.
• Provides technical support and support supervision to Assistant Lecturers and other junior academic staff.
• Participates in the review, development, and implementation of departmental, faculty and university curricula.
• Actively engage with the community, teaching hospitals and stakeholders to facilitate practical, clinical and research training of students.
• Performs any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Person Specifications:
Must be a Ugandan citizen who possesses the following:
• Must be a holder of a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) Degree or equivalent from a recognized University.
• Must be a holder of a Masters of Medicine (M.Med) Psychiatry Degree or equivalent from a recognized University.
• Must be registered with Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners’ Council, with a valid practicing license.
• Demonstrated ability in effective communication; collaboration, networking, problem identification and solving, supervision and evaluation of academic research projects.
• Excellent skills in research project writing, implementation, and supervision.
• Practical knowledge of current issues and trends in University academic research methodology, supervision, and development of learners.
• Must be industrious and self-driven and able to work with minimum supervision.
• Must be computer literate.
• Must be 45 years old or below at the time of application.
Tenure of Appointment: The appointment shall be permanent after successful completion of a probation period of 6 (six) months.
