Head Teacher at AFFCAD

Job Title: Head Teacher
Reports to: School Management Committee
Responsible for: Teaching and non-teaching staff
Job Role: Provide technical support in formulating aims and objectives for the school and policies for their implementation.
Job Summary:
The Head Teacher will be responsible for the smooth running of the school, academic achievement of pupils and management of staff. The Head Teacher will lead, motivate and manage staff by delegating responsibilities, setting expectations, targets and evaluating staff performance against them. .

Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership and Administration
• Sets direction for the school to enable all learners to reach their potential, and to translate a vision into a whole school curriculum with consistency and high expectations
• Plans, monitors and mentors teachers
• Builds teacher commitment to professional development
• Conducts employee performance reviews
• Manages the recruitment and orientation process of new staff in conjunction with the HR team.
• Manages all employee relations matters in conjunction with the HR team
• Provides input into the staff welfare initiatives and once agreed, supports implementation
Effective Teaching and Learning (Technical Outputs)
• Monitors curriculum, teaching and learning, and work with teachers to make recommendations for modifying them as needed
• Manages teaching and learning to ensure that there is a high degree of consistency and innovation in teaching practices to enable personalised learning for all students; Engages with networks collaborating to build curriculum diversity, professional support and extended services
• Ensures a healthy balance of academic, co-curricular and life skills for learners Provides timely and effective communication to all stakeholders as necessary
• Records of work and curriculum covered monitored
• Time table Implementation Monitored
• Learner Assessment Monitored
• Co-curricular activities implemented
• Learning Achievements monitored
Resource Management
• Develops the annual school budget
• Administers the approved budget and school resources to ensure budgetary and cost control measures are observed in the delivery of education services
• Draws up annual school workplan and calendar
• Manages school facilities and resources
• Annual school budget developed
• Termly and annual budgets prepared and submitted
• School funds and other resources accounted for
• Ensure that there are clearly understood procedures for setting and controlling financial budgets and deciding which is appropriate to delegate
• Make arrangements jointly with the School management committee to ensure that school property, buildings, grounds and equipment are used properly, safely, efficiently and effectively
Stakeholder Engagement
• Maintains communication with the school authorities, parents, and community (local authorities, government agencies and wider AFFCAD community)
• Manages the process of school partnership consultation.
Communication channels with school authorities, parents and community established and Standards maintained, partnership consultation
• Attending meetings of the governing body and making reports to them in connection with his/her responsibilities as they may properly require either on a regular basis or from time to time
• Advising and assisting the governing body of the school in the exercise of their functions.
• In co-operation with the AFFCAD School Director, to formulate, develop and review the overall aims and values of the school and to implement and then monitor the effectiveness of policies and procedures intended to achieve these aims and values.
• Advising the governing body on the adoption of effective procedures to deal with incompetent teachers, and keeping the governing body informed of the general operation of such procedures
School Development and Promotion.
• Ensure that there is an agreed strategic plan and an agreed school development plan in place at all times.
• Promote a clear sense of vision, direction and intended outcomes in leading and managing the process of both strategic and school development planning
• Establish effective structures for the smooth running of the school, ensuring that responsibilities are clear.
• Establish, implement and review procedures for the promotion and marketing of the school and encouraging the involvement of the whole staff

• Computer literacy skills
• Good team player, results oriented, self – motivated, able to work with minimum supervision and for long hours under extreme pressure
• Excellent Oral and Written communication skills.
• Creative thinking and problem-solving skills
• Demonstrated interest in the community education
• Possesses solid problem-solving skills

Qualifications:
• The applicant for the AFFCAD Head Teacher job opportunity should hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a Grade Five (5) diploma in primary Education.
• Registered and certified by the Ministry.

Job Education Requirements: Not Specified

Experience:
• 5 years’ primary school teaching experience with 2 years at leadership/ administration level.
• Thorough understanding of Ugandan primary education curriculum and teaching methods.
